Weekly roundup

(1) a 5.4 earthquake in southern ill. wow.  In other news, a recent study reported that there is a 99% chance of a 6.7 quake in CA in the next 30 years.  Given Californian’s laziness, this was met with derision instead of preparedness.  (For those unfamiliar with decade-math, a 6.7 is 20 times stronger than a 5.4.)

(2) racist cubbies – not cool. maybe they can blame the earthquake for disrupting their sense of right and wrong?

(3) Red Sox pitchers are cheaters!  clearly they have taken some weird potion to turn themselves into Mr. Stretch.

Speaking of the Sox, I was at Fenway for today’s game – what a spectacular come-from-behind win with two outs in the 8th!

The game started out rocky when Manny got tossed in the 2nd for throwing his bat after getting into with the ump over a pitch that looked low, even way out in the right field grandstands where our seats were. Things were not helped by the struggling Red Sox offense (tons of hits with no runs to show for them) and Wake giving up 5 runs in the first five innings or so, although he went on to pitch 8 innings total and pull out the win on a crazy rally.

And what a rally it was! After Big Papi got the momentum going by running out a hit that scored Lowrie, Pedroia came in from the bench on his day off to pinch-hit a triple that scored Papi and that pretty much sealed the deal! Watching Papi run for all he’s worth to make three bases on one play was simultaneously awesome and hilarious! :D Other notables include Youuuuukk! and his “Magical Barbarian Beard of Enhancing On-Base-Percentage” going 3-for-3 with two walks in 5 at-bats!

Great day to see a game, made even better by a hard-won Sox victory!
