Good/Bad Scheduling

First, the good: please, for the love of all things holy, watch some baseball today! Even if you normally don't care about these things, today is the last day of the regular season, with four teams fighting for two playoff spots, separated by one game in the standings. The Mets and Phillies are tied for the division lead, with the division loser fighting for the wild card (both teams are tied with the Rockies, and all three are one game back of San Diego).

Here's the summary.

Now, the bad: of all the football games to show in the early game, what does CBS choose for the San Diego market? Oakland vs Miami, a really ugly game between two sucky team that nobody cares about. Oh well, that's another three hours of my life saved (so I can work more on thesis writing).

P.S. does anybody know of a good San Diego sports bar where I can watch MNF?

  1. Dude!

    Go Phillies!

You must be happy, amigo - Sox and Phillies both in the postseason - gotta love it! 😀

Seriously, that was some exciting stuff in the NL east...

  2. Well, don't think that there isn't a little part of every Sox fan who enjoyed the Mets "getting what they deserved", 21 year later.

The one problem with this whole thing is that the wrong manager is going to get fired. Willie Randolph doesn't deserve sole blame for the Met's collapse, but even worse Charlie Manuel is a TERRIBLE manager but I'm afraid that this run and making the playoffs will save his job. Oh well. Maybe he can pull a Grady Little, but even that wouldn't get him fired now, I'm afraid.

  3. P.S the further update is that with the Padres choking and Colorado winning again, the Rockies are hosting a one-game playoff to see who wins the wild card. Lost in the Phillies streak is that of the Rockies, who won 11 in a row and 13 out of the last 14 to force today's game.

  4. Seriously, go Rockies, too!

The only way this playoff could be better for you and Bunchies is if the Cards were in and the Yanks were out. That would be pretty much perfect. 😀

That would even suit me just fine, although tossing in the 'Stros for good measure would be nice, if you ask me...

  5. Well, let's just say that (a) the Chargers' loss distracted a lot of people and (b) the Bolts are PRAYING that Peavy wins it tonight to take some of the heat off.

SD sports fans aren't as intense as, say, Bostonions or New Yorkers, but I'd say they are moreso than other West Coast locales. Most of what I've seen understands the decision to not pitch Peavy on 3-days-rest, but that said everybody is disappointed they blew it yesterday. All will be forgiven with a win tonight, I think.
