I just found out that the Twins have a pitcher named Boof Bonser. That had to be quite a weight growing up.
Or now for that matter.

Yeah, Boof is an awesome name, it makes me smile everytime he pops up in the Minny boxscore – he was actually born “John Paul” but got tired of being confused with some old Polish pontiff and so legally changed his name after a really good season in the minor leagues a few years ago.
How do you come up with a ‘childhood nickname’ of “Boof”? Sorta like my friend became “Coco” because her 4-year-old brother couldn’t pronounce “Alexandra”? weird.

Umm, my sister’s name is Rebecca, but I call her Bubs or Bubba.
Now that I think about it, it’s very very odd.

Bubba is a lovely girls name. I had planned to name my first boy Bubba, but I think, because of your wise use of the name, I will now name my first born Bubba regardless of sex. Hahaha.

Bubba Bunch does have a good ring to it.

And then she could open a restaurant specializing in deep-fried foods; the combo-plate would be called Bubba’s Bunchies?
good stuff.

Here’s the Boof update: unfortunately he didn’t have a good start against the Riverside Angels of near Anaheim but we’ll tack LA onto our name to broaden the fanbase, going only 5 1/3 innings while giving up 6 runs on 12 hits. No walks, though, but still not his best outing.
