Two things that piss me off

Posted by Michael.

While I’m waiting for K’s next edits, I’ll just linkpost these two bitch-ing items.

(1) Soldier’s casket transported on a baggage cart. Not cool.

(2) In keeping with the disrespect our military theme, more and more troops are now having to sue in order to avoid the Anthrax vaccine. “I know, here’s a good idea: these heroes fight for our country, let’s treat them like guinea pigs”? wtf.

Actually, this is made all the more interesting since K just worked on a study showing a possible positive correlation between Tetanus booster shots and ALS. hmm.

One other odd correlation that I heard about was trees and MS. Or maybe it’s rain and MS. Anyway, the Pacific Northwest and Seattle in particular has a disproportionately large number of people diagnosed with MS.

Good job on the multi-posts too.

Thanks, it was a nice relief to be able to contribute again.

Regarding the ALS correlations, there are a number of them, and theories abound (basically because we don’t know crap about the disease). K’s study on tetanus was inspired by a high level of incidence in the military (lots of shots) although athletes also have above-average rates, so that could be a physical conditioning thing instead of/in addition to the shots. And yeah, there are also weird location-related rate spikes.
