Telnet: Take 2

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

It’s funny how after hearing nothing about some technology for a while it suddenly starts showing up everywhere. Today, someone released SyncTerm which lets you telnet to BBS systems and have things appear correctly as well as being able to use zmodem transfers (wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve thought of that).

Anyway, I was really only involved in one BBS. To prove that things are cyclic though, the person who ran that BBS is now on my facebook friends list. It’s just odd.

On this weeks’s episode: Deer! And a skunk! In the parking lot!

I was just parking Truckzilla, so as not to get a ticket in the morning (forgot to do it earlier), in its properly-assigned place in the beloved Pit. Along the way (down the hill back behind the med school), I happened to notice some motion off to the right between the road and the F&OM groundskeeping building.

I looked over just in time to see 3 deer making their way through the tall grass along the hill there. Pretty cool sight to have them right there. Of course, that had me all attuned to any motion, so of course I saw the skunk scuttling along the western edge of the parking lot as I reached the bottom of the hill. He was shuffling northward at a pretty good clip.

From the looks of things, I was the only person around to see either of these events, since as I was making my way around the parking lot, I could tell that both the deer and the skunk had moved on into the wooded area to the northwest of the end of the lot andnot another human had come by yet.

Still, good stuff, and I’m very glad to have seen the skunk from a considerable distance. :)
