Customer Service with a smile

Posted by Michael.

Well, an electronic smile, but a positive experience (or two) nonetheless.

(1) I got my bro a gift certificate for his birthday, but he was in the middle of moving so I guess he never got it. Or something. Anyway, I want to give a shout out to Joseph Valenti of Live Adventure Company for being extremely helpful, contacting me when he saw that the certificate had not been used and then offering to reissue it to the new address. Quick, efficient, polite, helpful. Wow, I sound like a piece of Ebay feedback.

(2) Turns out my neurosis regarding keeping my powerbook cool was not completely unfounded – I finally looked at the serial number of my battery, and sure enough it’s within the range of those that blow up (nice job, Sony: first this and now you can’t make the PS3 on time?) so I arranged to send it back. The surprise, though, was how easy the whole process was – just fill out a little form on their website and they’ll send me a replacement battery along with a postage-paid envelope for me to return the “bad” battery.  Good stuff.

Exploding electronics that are not intended to blow up are less than ideal, I would say. Good work with the new battery. My battery is turning to crap, so I wish mine would blow up … or not. Maybe just be one that could? Hmmm

i just replaced my battery because it had a life of about half an hour per charge. the 12″ i believe wasn’t included in the battery issue anyway, so i couldn’t use the excuse. though my computer gets awfully hot. the worst part is the casing above the keyboard and over onto the side where the hinge is.

Yeah, I had to replace mine about 6 months ago because of the whole ’splody problem. They caught that batch (a much smaller one) much earlier, so I didn’t have to worry this time around.

It was veery easy to replace it then, though. Just fill out the webform and return the old battery in the box the new one came in using the new shipping label provided. Hand it off to the FedEx guy as he was picking up from the box in downtown Hanover and it was good to go.

Hooray Apple! Hooray Expeditious and Straightforward Recall Procedures!

    Boo ‘Splody Batteries! Boo Sony!
