A great debate…

Friday, August 25th, 2006

…about a certain large-ish cartoon and video-game character who never seems to be well-rested.

I really appreciate how intensely the two guys in this video are debating this topic. I think that this is a powerful and very enlightening case study featuring this country’s future potential. (I’d insert a smiley rolling his eyes at this point, but I don’t know how…)

Daily Wingnut: Special Issue! – Weird Spam #2

Friday, August 25th, 2006

This one came today, and it was sure new to me. The picture is classic spammer fare, as you can see for yourself below, but the message that followed was surreal in its irrelevance.

Langdon looked again at the fax an ancient myth confirmed in black and white. The implications were frightening. He gazed absently through the bay window. The first hint of dawn was sifting through the birch trees in his backyard, but the view looked somehow different this morning. As an odd combination of fear and exhilaration settled over him, Langdon knew he had no choice The man led Langdon the length of the hangar. They rounded the corner onto the runway.

Mr. “Kenneth Harris”, you are a strange one, indeed.

Phishing

Friday, August 25th, 2006

So, it goes without saying that if you get an email that looks like the one below, it is a scam. If you fill out the webpage they link (which has a .nl address), you will very quickly find yourself without money.

Man though, they sure aren’t shy about asking for information. They want your name, the name of your credit union, the number on your atm card, the expiration date, the CVV2 number, and your PIN number. I’m surprised they don’t ask for your mother’s maiden name and your SSN too.

National Credit Union Administration

The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is comitted to maintain a safe environment for over 80 million account holders in all federal credit unions and many state-chartered credit unions. Protecting the security of holders account and of the Federal Credit Unions (FCU) network is our primary concern. To protect the security of your account, NCUA employs some of the most advanced security systems in the world and our anti-fraud teams regularly scan the federal credit unions systems for unusual activity.

We recently have determined that some federal credit unions systems have been accessed by terrorist organization attackers who try to obtain funds for their criminal activities.

Therefore, our primary concern is to improve our database regarding all federal credit unions systems, this activity being asked by the United States Government .

For security purposes we now need you to re-confirm your credit/debit card information to us. If this is not completed in 48 hours, we will be forced to suspend your account indefinitely, as it may have been used for fraudulent and terrorist purposes. We thank you for your cooperation in this manner.

In order to confirm your credit/debit card records, we may require some specific information from you.

President Ford

Friday, August 25th, 2006

This is probably my extreme lack of knowledge about how my own government works, but did all of you realize how Ford became president?

Spiro Agnew was Nixon’s vice president and resigned (because of some tax problems), so Nixon appointed Ford to be vice president. Then Nixon resigned and Ford became president. That makes him the only president who wasn’t actually elected.

Very odd.
