Grandiloquence…

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

…it ain’t just for Don King anymore! :)

Get wise to the Grandiloquent Dictionary, lest I be forced to label you a sciolist, worse yet, a fysigunkus or, even worse, a fustilug.

(Note: I have an audio clip of the Don King piece linked above; it’s a very funny spoof. Contact me directly and I’ll e-mail to those interested.)

Fun with the Big Green Website, episode #1

Did any of y’all know this page was floating around out there on the Inter-web?

I dunno, maybe I’m just a big ol’ dweeb, but I think having a special page dedicated to categorizing all your school’s experts is pretty sweet.

I hope the frantic journalist-types who look to some of our experts for that last-minute, deadline-nipping-at-their-heels opinion or quote find this service useful.

Back from the Bahamas

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Yea for vacation!  Fortunately (we had non-refundable tickets) tropical storm Chris fizzled out into a tropical depression instead of a hurricane and I got to go to the Bahamas with my family.  The flights down were no problem and the weather was gorgeous!  With my spf 45 sunscreen I managed to get a wee bit of a tan instead of a lobsterish burn.  At our closest approach to the storm, we could feel the boat rocking just enough to make walking in heals an exciting challenge.  For added excitement, the ship’s auxiliary engine room B caught on fire the same night.  Luckily, the fire was quickly contained, no one was hurt, and we did not have to use what we learned in our mandatory muster station drill.  The flights back were all delayed due to lightning and I literally had to run to them.  I had had breakfast on the boat in Miami at 7:30 am and was planning to get lunch between the first two flights and dinner between the 2nd and 3rd but was not able to, so I came home around 8:30 very hungry!  A big thanks to Tim for picking me up at the Leb airport!  Wow, that is a small airport.  That was not a plane that I came in on, it was a bus with wings.  I am going to try and include a picture in the comments of me and my sisters on the boat.  It was nice seeing them since I will probably not see them again until Thanksgiving!!
