a new way to upload pictures

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

Needless to say, the old way wasn’t working and I hadn’t fixed it before now…

In the “Write Post” window, under the text box, there should be a little thing that says “upload”. Select your file and then upload it. Now, click the file name and select “send to editor” and that will squirt the right html code into the post. Repeat as needed.

Just to prove it works, here’s the yahoo logo.

Transgender DMS Alumni Publishes on Treatment of Women in Science

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

Ben Barres used to be a woman, and at the age of 42, underwent a sex change. He recalls another scienteist who was unaware of his sex change saying, “Ben Barres gave a great seminar today, but then his work is much better than his sister’s.” It just goes to show that in today’s society, many people (probably subconsiously) associate men with doing great work and females doing mediocre work, even if the work is exactly the same!

Innsbruck, post 1

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

This is the first time that I’ve had more than 2 minutes of computer time this week, so I thought I’d make a wee contribution to blogland (which looks like it’s been running a bit slow, hmmm.)

anzway, item #1: the keyboard here is way more messed up than in the UK. One thing that I like is the < and > which here live as an extra key, taking up half of the left shift key.  But still, it takes a bit of getting used to.

Delayed Post…

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

I meant to make this one earlier, and would have included more information (and photos, but I still can’t make the photo and file upload work since dactyl updated to the new version of Wordpress).

Anyways, despite the fact that the gritty details of Sunday’s return trip (delayed flights and all) have now faded into the realm of no longer being remembered in vivid enough detail to merit blogging, the major activities of the weekend were quite memorable.

Of particular interest would be the fact that the maid of honor at the wedding I attended was quite the hottie, and I found myself fortunate enough to steal her for a dance or two. :D
