Buried Treasure

Of many wonders I’ve just found while rifling through the massive pile on my desk, I found my broken cell phone with charger, and, dammit, my spare car key!  If I had only known that it were here a few weeks ago when i called the police to come break into it.  Now, if only my OSX Panther installation dvd would resurface so i can finally get iPhoto back on my laptop and download the recent pictures (including a nice shot of the rainbow the other day, over the stadium as i was on my way to the jewel to pick up dinner).  Also hoping a new battery will resurrect the wounded cell phone.  It sure ain’t pretty but i’m still holding out hope that it will be useable.

WUNDERBAR!!

“I honestly can’t remember the last time a Germany team played football like that,” said a delighted Jurgen Klinsmann (German coach) after his side beat Sweden 2-0 in Munich.

Go Germany–all the way this year!

Germany became the first team into the quarter-finals of the World Cup as two early Lukas Podolski goals secured a comfortable 2-0 win against Sweden in Munich.

Watching the Italy-US match again, I am further enraged at the incompetence of the referee, he-who-shall-not-be-named. Not only did he rob us of a chance to get all three points, but he stole key starters from us for the Ghana match, since a red card means they’re suspended for the next match…

Moving on: Croatia-Japan’s match this morning was awful. A couple nice saves, a missed penalty, and two teams who don’t look like they belong. Why couldn’t we be in this group? Not to jinx the Aussies, but they may not even need a result against Brazil to advance. If they tie or win, they can win the group!

Chess-boxing

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

The rules: Eleven alternating rounds, six of chess, five of boxing – the board is placed directly in the middle of the ring. Each round of chess lasts four minutes, boxing rounds are two minutes.  Participants win by way of knockout, checkmate, referee’s decision, or if his opponent exceeds the allotted total of 12 minutes for an entire match on the chessboard.

“Chessboxing makes you fit for life,” inventor Iepe Rubingh says, running a hand over his red-tinted buzz cut. “It polishes you.”
