Friday, June 23rd, 2006The rules: Eleven alternating rounds, six of chess, five of boxing – the board is placed directly in the middle of the ring. Each round of chess lasts four minutes, boxing rounds are two minutes. Participants win by way of knockout, checkmate, referee’s decision, or if his opponent exceeds the allotted total of 12 minutes for an entire match on the chessboard.
“Chessboxing makes you fit for life,” inventor Iepe Rubingh says, running a hand over his red-tinted buzz cut. “It polishes you.”
