Carefree Saturday, Part 1: Pancakes!

Posted by Tim.

A madcap early morning carpool misadventure northward with Winton, Becky, Jeremy, and Anya found us leaving my housing Lyme at 7:10 AM, bound for Sugar Hill, NH (just outside of Franconia), to partake of some hearty breakfast at the famous Polly’s Pancake Parlor.

The food was great, albeit a shade higher in price than would merit that long of a trip for no reason other than breakfast. I would however, highly recommend stopping by if you’re up that way and in the mood for some good eats while they’re open. Whole wheat pancakes with real blueberries and locally-produced maple syrup = a most excellent way to start your weekend morning.

At least the company was good, so a few hours of driving and eating together affording us the chance to share in some good long conversations. To paraphrase Winton’s comment: it was a most excellent adventure, in spite of the rather anti-climactic meal. :)

    Me wants pictures!

(and if you don’t have pictures of the pancakes, I’ll settle for some from the afternoon. ;) )

Too bad about the not-quite-worth it quality of the pancakes, but adventures are still entertaining…

i have pictures of some kinda deer on a farm in lyme and some cute baby cows from the ride home, but i don’t know how to post one…

lou’s pancakes are better, but there are no springtime baby animals on the way to lou’s :)

    How to post pictures:

    (1) Go the the main “soapbox” page. Then scroll down to “site admin” (at the bottom of the toolbar on the right).
    (2) Click the “Upload” button on the menu along the top, and then browse to the figure you want to upload. currently there is a 250k limit which is lame, Nathaniel you should fix that.
    (3) if it uploads properly, you’ll see a page like this:

    File uploaded!

Your file Netarts_April2006.JPG was uploaded successfully!

Here’s the code to display it:

    Image Details:
    Name: Netarts_April2006.JPG
    Size:82.33 KB
    Type:image/jpeg

    (4) you can then copy the section of code
    <img src=”http://dactyl.dartmouth.edu/~blog/images/Netarts_April2006.JPG”/>
    netarts bay
and paste it into your post. or you can pretend it’s a link and do it this way:
    <a=”http://dactyl.dartmouth.edu/~blog/images/Netarts_April2006.JPG”>photo<a/>

Speaking of which, those ’some kind of deer on a farm in Lyme” are probably the reindeer at the Record Ridge dairy you would have passed on the right as you headed out East Thetford Road towards my house. My landlord has a few of their cast-off antlers from a couple of years ago, when he met the folks who live there and established neighborly contact.

  5. Becky Says:

here is a picture of the reindeer (lyme):

and a cute baby cow (in thetford?):

my landlord roommate has a deer head in the garage right above where i park my car. it stares at me when i get out of my car at night. very creepy. but cast off antlers might be neat.

  6. Tim Says:

    I don’t see no pictures… :(

  7. Becky Says:

    oh no i don’t either :(

  8. Becky Says:

do i need to upload them again? how do i get the thing back that i have to copy and paste? i copied and pasted, but there is nothing there :(

I’m going to post this comment, then go back and edit it and use the “Image Browser” button to see if I can find the pictures. Not sure why the code for the pictures got deleted Becky.

Okay, here’s the cow (and calf), and here’s the raindeer.
