Sport update (2nd May ed.)

Posted by Michael.

Note: for Tim, it’s the first of May, thanks to April 31st.

Item #1: the Clippers win a playoff series! sorry to Nick, whose Nuggies had to be the victim, but this sets up a Clips/Lakers matchup (with the Lake-show up 3-1 over the Suns) which should be fun.

Item #2: I broke down and ordered Dish Network today. I’m still nervous about how well the whole think will work until it’s up and running and my first bill isn’t huge, but I’m supposed to get free DVR (not Tivo but still nice) and cheap rates for the first 10 months, and the mega-sport package is only $5.99/mo more, sounds good to me. Which brings us to the sub-items:
(2.a) Derby Day, less than a week away!
(2.b) The NFL draft happened, only 5 months until Football! of particular note for Pats fans, check out this quote from a guy who knows something about running backs:
And one final note from Shanahan about Laurence Maroney. “I loved him,” Shanahan said. “I think the Patriots got a steal. An absolute steal. I think he’s going to be the best back in the league.”
(2.c) David Ortiz is a heck of a hitter. Calling him “the greatest clutch hitter in Red Sox history” may be a little silly, but the dude sure can pick his spots.

  1. Nick Says:

While I’m happy for the Clippers (it’s about damn time!) but I still wish the fucking Nuggets would win something for once.

  2. Michael Says:

Item #3: Doug Mirabelli’s return to Boston:

Enter the police, who arrived with a squad car and Mirabelli’s No. 28 uniform and spikes. With lights flashing and sirens blaring, Mirabelli dressed in the backseat during the 10-minute drive from Logan Airport to Fenway. He sprinted through the gates and arrived in time to catch Tim Wakefield’s first warmup toss.

Asked later if it was the first time he’d ever been in a police car, Mirabelli smiled.

“First time naked in a police car,” he said.
