Some Mighty Fine Sci-Fi

Sci-fi as it should be: I got the Space: Above and Beyond Complete Series DVDs for my birthday. For those who have never heard of it, it aired on Fox, geez, I think while I was still in high school. Naturally, being sci-fi that wasn’t the X-Files (though it was created by the producers of the first 2 or 3 seasons or so of the X-Files), it got the ax after a season.

Brief overview: Earth starts a couple colonies on other planets, believing that they are the only inhabitants of the galaxy (or perhaps our backwater part of the galaxy), only to have the two colonies destroyed by unknown aliens. The show follows a group of new recruits to the Marine Corps, space division (i.e. some kick-ass fighters-in-space sequences) in the ensuing war against the “chigs”, so known for their full suits of armor resembling the little insects on earth.

Haven’t had a chance to start watching them yet, as I’ve still got a season and a half of “Third Watch” to get through, as well as figuring out where the hell I’m going next, and finishing my soul-sucking paper, but if anyone else would like to at least check the series out, I’m willing to loan them out in the few months I’ve got left here.

P.S. There’s an episode that features music by Johnny Cash. My memory of it is vague, but there’s a character that loves Johnny Cash music, and there’s something about a black hole and “Ring of Fire”. Hence posting this now.
