Well, I’m off…

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006  relaxed

Time for me to head home and finish packing. I think I’ll hit the shower tonight as well, since getting up in time to make a 6:15 AM flight out of Lebanon will make me not want to have to deal with that in the morning.

I’ll be back from this wedding shindig Sunday afternoon, and I’m planning on checking out the showing at the HOP of Russian Ark, which happens at 7 PM. For those of you who think the Oscars will be a better waste of your time, stop kidding yourselves and join me for a film billed as:

“2000 Actors. 300 years of Russian History. 33 Rooms at the Hermitage Museum. 3 Live Orchestras. 1 Single Continuous Shot.”

Hasta Domingo.

Asking the Audience… (Redux)

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006  thoughtful

Some of y’all may remember my earlier post about the best man speech I’ll need to give at my buddy John’s wedding this weekend.

So, now that I’ve commited more or less what I’ll say to paper, it comes to a total of a little less than one side of a sheet of notebook paper, handwritten. Given my big ol’ handwriting (about seven words per line, on average), does anyone think that’ll be too long? (Now worries, I’m not going for notecards or anything, but I though solidifying my thoughts a little more was a good idea.)

I think I’ve even got the requisite mix of thank-you’s, self-deprecating humor, earnest feelings, and celebratory tone to make for a decent toast. I managed to keep it short and simple (”, stupid!” – acronym: KISSS) by writing a letter to John and Christy that’ll more completely express my thoughts for them. I’d share the gist of what I’m gonna say, but I’m not so sure that John doesn’t read our blog on occassion, so I won’t risk it.

Thanks to Michael and Nathaniel again for their advice in the comments to my earlier post. Here’s to hoping I don’t biff this one.

Internet probs?

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

So, I can access the Dartmouth.edu domain just fine, and write on dactyl, etc, but I can’t see the outside internet – and Qun has the same problem. Is this just a local/our office problem, or do y’all have the same problem? Just checking.

Yesterday the Smithsonian opened a new exhibit (XZibit?), “Hip-Hop Won’t Stop: The Beat, The Rhymes, The Life“. The exhibit will showcase a permanent collection along with some temporary elements. Vinyl records, handwritten lyrics, boom boxes, clothing, microphones and other artifacts will be featured.
