I went to the liquor store yesterday because I needed to replenish my supply of booze after I dropped some of it off at Nick’s.*
Anyway, here are my reviews of my most recent alcohol purchases…
Tanqueray No. 10 Gin: Umm, tastes like gin. It’s definitely nice though, the herbs aren’t overwhelming and it’s fairly smooth with only a touch of burn at the end. (I should also note that in all these cases the hooch was being consumed warm.)
Grey Goose Vodka: So amazingly smooth. Even warm, it was just smooth. Yup.
Cointreau: Very sharp orange smell/taste in contrast to the more mellow orange of Grand Marnier. Fairly decent burn at the end.
Midori: Tastes like melon, which is exactly what it’s supposed to do. I invented a drink a few years ago called the “unripe orange”. You fill a glass with cubes of ice and orange juice and then sink some Midori into the bottom which ends up giving you a green tinge to the OJ at the bottom. Plus, it tastes pretty good.
Frangelico: hazelnut liquor… it’s not bad, but the flavor is too sharp.
Godiva White Chocolate: if you didn’t know it was alcoholic, you wouldn’t from the flavor, especially cold. It would be really good mixed with the Frangelico.
Jaegermeister: I’d only heard bad things about Jaeger… but it’s actually not that bad. So far I’ve only heard about using it in a “red headed slut” (cranberry juice, peach schnapps, and Jaeger) but that sounds kind of vile.
Anyway, I still need to get some other stuff… I don’t have any good brandy or cognac and similarly, I need a bottle of port. Plus, my collection of novelty stuff like Peach Schnapps and Creme de Menthe is lacking. Just something to get on my next visit to the booze store, maybe in 2008.
*Yeah, so it was a tiny donation and I feel kind of bad dropping off the bottle of Johnny Walker since the main flavor in it was cardboard. I was sort of hoping that if people were already drunk they wouldn’t notice the cardboard flavor as much.
