The Economics of Football Coaching Decisions

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006  working

Hooray Economics! Hooray going for it when you’re Fourth-and-Goal!

I really like it when good science trumps those cases of “traditional wisdom” that never seemed all that wise.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006  hyper

For those who ain’t up on their essential French, that translates as “let the good times roll”, which is a phrase often heard shouted during the big party that is Mardi Gras, or, to keep the translation going, Fat Tuedsay.

Hope everyone makes the most of their Carnival day; anyone who ain’t ever had a moonpie before and wants to try one can lay claim to one of the remaining four currently living at my desk.

Also, apologies to the ladies out there: I left the beads at home today. :P

Anyways, in honor of the day, my listening will be confined to old school New Orleans jazz and the Zydeco, the Cajun dance music.

Can you tell Nick from butter?

Monday, February 27th, 2006

What’s your slogan ?

Others I got:

Would you give someone your last Bunch?
Please don’t squeeze the Bunch.
Designed for Bunch.
Spreads straight from the Bunch.
When the going gets tough, the tough get Nick.
It’s just for me and my Nick.
Any time, any place, Nick.
You can be sure of Nick.
8 out of 10 owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred Bunchie.

RIP, “Chester”

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Dennis Weaver, star of hit ’70’s TV show “McCloud” and best known to me as Chester Goode, the first loyal deputy to Jim Arness’s Marshal Matt Dillon in “Gunsmoke”, that classic TV behemoth that ran for 20 years, passed away at the ripe old age of 81 today.

From his official AP obit, it sounds like he used his fame and influence to really make a big difference in a lot of needy folks’ lives and to save the planet from our excesses.

Happy trails, friend; the range will be a little more lonesome on account of your absence from our lives.

Everyone currently eating lunch!

Monday, February 27th, 2006

it’s been poisoned!!!!

Actually, your food is fine. However, I’m going to be coming into the office in just a few moments with my frozen White Chocolate Mousse Cake and you should save a little bit of room for it.

Not a whole lot of room, but it’s worth at least having a taste of.

See you in like 20 minutes.

Happy Birthday Tim!!

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Today the expert in coupling a radio-frequency single-electron transistor to a quantum dot formed in a silicon/silicon-germanium heterostructure is turning a year older and wiser. So raise your glasses, give a cheer, to dear Tim, the birthday boy of the basement of Wilder. have a great birthday, Tim, and don’t party too hard–it’d be nice to see you tomorrow… :)

Here is your birthday present from me:

fun for you and your lab
