Finishing the clothing trifecta

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

Two questions. One for the general public, one for Chris.

One, what do people think of button flies on their jeans?

Two, do they could as being designer jeans if they were originally $125 but were way on sale? Also, is cost enough to give “designer” status or do they have to be from Juicy?

Fun with pants

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

Have you ever ordered a pair of pants in say, 34×36, tried them on, and wondered if you suddenly shrunk in circumference?

36×34 pants aren’t exactly the same thing.

Corduroy Jackets

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

Since my suit size is a 42 extra long, I didn’t figure it would be easy to find a cord jacket. Getting sleeves the right length is tricky and you can’t really let out corduroy because you get marks in the pile from where the old seam was.

Needless to say, I wasn’t expecting much when I ordered a blazer from J. Crew. It was only $80 (”only” compared to the $500 one that I tried on at Nordstrom’s) and I figured I’d just return it after I tried it on once.

I should have ordered it earlier when there was more choice in color. Drat.

It fits perfectly. The only downside is that it’s “dark loden”: it’s not a bad green, but tan or brown might be a more useful color. I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with a J. Crew rep seeing if they could search the unseen cracks of the universe for just one more in my size in dark straw or chocolate. Crack searching turns out to be a difficult task… one that yields no answers for around 48 hours.

So I think I’ll wear the loden one to work tomorrow to get all y’all’s impression and then I’ll bitch about the fact that I should have ordered the “right” one earlier.

Left- or Right-Thumbed?

Thursday, November 17th, 2005  sore

I finally get to drink my pear tea, since it’s caffeinated, and what do I do? Scald myself while heating the water. Alas, the victim was my left thumb, which, until now, I hadn’t realized was so important to me. After I wrapped it in a wet paper towel to somewhat ease the pain, I discovered that I’m a left-thumbed spacebar person. Since all my work is done on the computer, in unix, this is problematic. I have to forego the paper towel if I desire any speed in typing whatsoever (like when I’m expressing thoughts on a blog, email, IM, or msg board), or force myself to right-thumb space.
