Muhammed Ali’s Diminishing Health…

Friday, November 4th, 2005  thoughtful

Looks like one of the greatest boxers ever is finally losing his struggle against Parkinson’s disease. I guess he’s had a pretty full life, but when Ali finally passes, it’ll still be a heck of a loss.

If y’all ain’t seen ‘em before, you should check out the films of Ali’s classic fights. He’s mesmerizing to watch; the man is a like a force of nature and truly masterful in the ring. We haven’t had heavyweight fights like that in the last thirty years, and we may not ever see a champ like Ali again. After him, heavyweight fights just went downhill, in my opinion.

I enjoy watching the occasional boxing match, but I’ve tended to prefer middleweights and lower when it come to contemporary boxing. I do have a soft spot for Roy Jones, Jr., seein’ as he’s kind of a hometown hero where I’m from. (Pensacola, FL, Roy’s home town, ain’t but a short drive from my hometown in Alabama.)

Stay strong, Champ, the rest of us mere mortals could still stand to learn something from the unapologetic life you chose to live.

Well, shit

Andrea asked me yesterday if I could cover public observing for her, because she was going to Germany to see her grandparents. I forget whether it was a birthday or anniversary. Anyway, at the moment, it’s looking like the weather monkeys were wrong, and it’s not going to be cloudy after all. Unless of course the mysterious Hanover weather kicks in, and clouds just appear out of nowhere after sunset. Which did happen Wednesday night when I was trying to get the last 2 students through the first lab for A3.

Is anyone else interested in going to see the Brad Paisley and Sara Evans concert on Friday, December 9th at 8pm? Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning (10am) and I would like to get them as soon as possible. Ticketmaster.com says the ticket price will be $41. It is in Lowell, MA.
Let me know soon if you want to come too :)

Loud Music

Are there any songs that benefit from being played with high volume? As an example, I notice that whenever AC/DC’s “Back in Black” comes on the radio, I turn it way up. I also do the same thing with Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” and “When the Levee Breaks.”
