My car’s been needing a new timing belt for a long time. Not that anything is wrong with the current timing belt, but it has almost 90K on it. Add the fact that the 1.8T engine is an interference engine and it’s rebuild time for the engine if the belt breaks.

So, the good news is that Northern Motorsports can do it (will be doing it) on Thursday.

The bad news is that it’s going to run me $750. Of course, the dealership wanted something like $1300, so it’s not that bad of a deal. Still a lot of money though.

Regardless of what you think of the cultural or environmental impact, the fact is that drilling the ANWR doesn’t make any sense – well, maybe two or three cents/gallon a decade from now.
