They’ve decided to put the Astrodome to some good use for the refugees from hurricane Katrina currently housed at the rapidly degrading Superdome.
I can’t think of a better purpose for an otherwise abandoned stadium facility slated for demolition, although Houston has it’s own share of flood problems. Fortunately, the Astrodome/Reliant Park area in Houston weathers most flood conditions with few problems, and is probably the safest bet, short of another major hurricane having a direct hit on that part of Texas.
Now, if I were a celebrity-entertainer type looking to stage a benefit concert, I think a webcast concert from the Astrodome, with the refugees as audience would be very fitting. Are you listening, Willie Nelson?
