Study music?

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005  working

So, now that a reasonable segment of us are burying our noses in the books, maybe it’s time for a survey?

Anyways, here’s the questions, which I’ll answer in the first comment thread to get us going:

1. Do you prefer to study with music, with some other background, or with silence?

2. If you like some noise to go with your work, what general sort do you prefer, i.e., type of music, sports broadcast, talk radio, etc.?

3. List some favorite artists, albums, pieces, or songs that get the ol’ noggin in the studying mode.

There are two of them!

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

For those of you who are a fan of attractive women that bring you beer, here is the second installment of, well, the best you can do in that realm from the comfort of your computer screen … that is unless you have your own office / home beer wench. In which case you are a lucky mother fu*ker. Gather ’round the Virtual Bartender II and order what you like.

Moods again

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005  thoughtful

I’m wondering if the moods that I doctored have been instituted, and I’m taking suggestions for new ones (to be constructed after quals, methinks). Far as I know, we still need a “’splody” (perhaps to be created before quals). I believe I offered up a “smug” and an alternative “bitchy”.

I’d like to suggest a “rage” (or would “pissed off” be preferable?), and “sweaty”, because, as today shows, you can be sweaty without actually being hot.

I’m thinking the way to go with constructing the new faces may be to draw them on paper, scan them into the computer, and then shrink them down to the standard 30×30 image. We’ll see, once quals are done.

Rain delays

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Baseball games are always funnier after a long rain delay. The Sox need two more outs to end the game, and the commentators are getting really punchy. Making all kinds of comments you wouldn’t hear normally. The fans are much easier to hear, as well.
