It ain’t summer…

without the Little League World Series. At least, we always watched the games on tv when I was a kid. My sister actually went to a game once, but I never had friends (or parents) who were interested in going. We were supposed to go the Little League Museum for our fourth grade field trip, but for some reason, they screwed us and took us to the Lycoming County (mind you, we’re from Northumberland County) Historical Museum and the Hiawatha paddle boat ride on the Susquehanna.
The team from Newtown, PA made it out of the Mid-Atlantic regionals, but, alas, have lost their first two games in Williamsport. The teams from HI and FL will advance from their pool, while LA and someone else are advancing from the other US pool. The PA team is kicking ass right now though, 8-0 in the third inning, against Davenport, IA. Where is Newtown, you might ask the Pennsylvanian….I haven’t the foggiest, but that’s hardly the point. LONG LIVE PENNSYLVANIA (as long as it stays blue)!

Freakin’ Lycoming…
Always a problem contender for Trinity (my undergrad school) during NCAA Div. III football playoffs. I think it was Lycoming that beat us in the semifinals my freshman year.
Also, Davenport, IA, home of Bix Beiderbecke, a jazz cornet (like a trumpet) player contemporary with and almost on par with the great Louis Armstrong. The reason most folks don’t know much about poor Bix is that he’d pretty much drank himself to death by the time he was our age. Still, highly influential and worth a listen. (As usual, you can find him over on my iTunes, “Deep Fried” on the subnet.)
