Buying an iBook

Posted by Nathaniel.

I don’t know if all y’all have been following this, but Henrico County was the first big school district to buy laptops for all their middle-school students. At the start of the year they decided to switch over to Dell laptops and had to sell off all the older iBooks.

Anyway, if you were down there you could buy one for $50. (The current price for one of those machines on eBay is more like $350.)

Needless to say, it was a madhouse so you should read some of the news stories.

And I want one of those t-shirts!

People act like wetting yourself to keep your place in line is a bad thing.

I don’t get it. I mean, I wet myself pretty regularly and not even to stay in line.

As ridiculous as this incident was, it was still pretty f-ed up that the authorities involved failed to anticipate near-rioutous conditions.

They should have conducted a lottery system or something to help deter the crowd-turned-mob scenario that led to all those folks getting hurt.
