Returning one’s nose to the grindstone…

Had a safe return trip from Chicago; lots of fun had while in town, although missed catching up with some of my friends there for various reasons.

Saw the “Dukes of Hazzard” movie over the weekend; general assessment is favorable, but would have enjoyed more car chases and dynamite-laden arrow work over the stilted attempts to concoct a plot slightly more layered in its complexity than the average episode of the old TV show. Still, though, some truly impressive car stunt work, especially when you account for the complete and utter lack of computer-generated anything. Also of note: they had Junior Brown in the role of the Balladeer (narrator), which was a masterful choice (refer to my iTunes for some of Junior’s particular brand of Texas country). Of course, Junior ain’t Waylon Jennings, but he didn’t make the mistake of trying to be, either. Plus, they got smart and kept the original opening theme, as sung by Waylon himself.

Anyways, its back to work now: I figure this week will be spent cleaning research stuff (mostly half-built circuits) off my desk by finishing them up while I work on accumulating and organizing study materials for the quals. Three whole bushels of fun, honest! :P
