gas prices
Posted by Nathaniel.
I tried to make my drive more interesting today by seeing how far I could get before panic gripped me and I had to buy gas. I made it about 10 miles after the little gas light turned on, which happened to be in Ascutney.
Then $35 (well $34.58) poorer, I drove the last 15 or so miles home.
Yowzas.
So how much does it cost for you to fill up Tim?

I try not to let it get below the halfway mark, ’cause after that, it’s scary.
My tank is about 26 gallons and change, so filling up from half runs almost $40, given recent prices.
What really sucks is that I’ve let in linger lately, on account of waiting for payday, so I’ll be filling up from a quarter tank here in a few.
Now y’all know why I don’t drive all over Hell’s half-acre willy-nilly.

is this where I pipe up and say that gas costs me ~6 cents/mile? so that on a fill-up of $25 I can go over 400mi?
hmmm, no, because that will depress me to the point where I won’t want to get my truck. *sad*
btw Tim, it’s really not a bad idea to run your tank down to at least 1/4 so as to burn off water/junk that will can get annoying come winter. I don’t really know how important it is, but I think I heard Tom and Ray say that it’s a good plan when living in New England.

i’ve played the “how empty is empty” game myself. i hope everyone is aware of the 5 cent discount on sundays at the food stop in hanover and west leb. i’ve gone two weeks before refilling, and that was really stretching it. there were several trips to the shelter in enfield involved in decimating my gas supply that time. the car started acting funny, so i figured i needed to put a little fuel in to get me to the next sunday. but the beauty of my tank is that it’s only 10 gallons. i always forget to check the mileage when i fill up, so i’ve no idea what that translates to in cents/mile.

Driving today (which was mostly highway with maybe 10% stop and go city driving) I averaged 33.5 mpg according to the little man who runs the innards of my car.
Premium gas was $2.489 a gallon so that’s like 7.4 cents a mile.
And then add two cents a mile for maintaining the car.

ha, premium. the hamster that runs my car demands regular, and nothing but.
