Totally random question

Posted by Nathaniel.

Does anyone know how to weld or know someone who can weld?

I have some U shaped thingies that I need made (2 straight legs welded onto a straight top piece) and I have no idea who to go to. I used to be able to do oxy-acetelene and have arc-welded a few joints but that was years ago.

If I were home, I’d just ask the shop teacher if there were any students who wanted to make a few bucks. Does Hanover High have metal shop? For summer-school students?

my step-brother is a skilled welder, but he’s in NJ, so that’s not much help.

Not sure about HH – you might instead check out the vo-tech school/class across the river in Hartford. page 12, i think?

You should try asking Rich and Fred down in the machine shop; they’re bound to know someone who can hook you up.

Also worth trying: the construction crews working near our lab in the basement.

Another notion just hit me: my theater department buds in undergrad, particularly the ones who worked set design and such, knew their way around welding. You might have some luck with the theater folk here at Dartmouth.

good call with the theatre people. i was thinking that rich and fred’d be busy, but that might be easier?
