help me!

Ok, so I have been looking for an apartment. And I have looked at more apartments than I can recall and seen all kinds, shapes, sizes, and conditions (with lots of help from David). The one I am in now sucks up all my money and leaves me living paycheck to paycheck. The apartment I found is 120 dollars a week with everything (heat, water, electricity, cable, internet, trash, phone) included. And I would not have to mow anymore, or shovel snow, and i would get a garage parking spot so I would not have to scrape my car off on icy wintery mornings. It’s in Wilder, so it’s just a little farther than where I am now, but still closer than Walmart. But it’s like what Holly is doing now: I would be living with the landlord and would just be renting the room (two rooms when he is finished re-doing the floors in the second room). I would have my own bathroom, but I would have to share the kitchen/living room area. It’s furnished, so either his furniture or mine would have to be stored (but he has storage above the garage all ready to be used). And laundry is available. I would save about 300 dollars a month.
But I really like having my own space. So I would have to give that up. The landlord travels a lot, but still….
Oh, and he has three cats. But I love cats. I would pet them and hope they slept on the foot of my bed so I could pet them if I woke up at night.
So it all comes down to: how much is my privacy worth??
I have no idea what to do. I have two days to decide. If I want to move at the begining of August, I have to give my current landlord 30 days’ notice. The new landlord is going to hold it for me and not show it to anyone else until I decide. So I have to decide by the 30th so I could overnight my letter telling him I am moving if I decide to move.
What do I do?
I flipped a coin. It said to move.

I would say, move. You still have your privacy (bedroom and bath), but you have the option of social interaction if you feel like it. Or you can wait until Cayelin leaves my place
But I don’t know for sure when she leaves, or if he has anyone lined up to replace her. If you stay at my place, go ahead and ask him.

Don’t be afraid to ask. You can say that I told you to ask.

Actually, I’ll just email him. Hopefully he’ll reply rather quickly. Then you’ll know before the 30th. Again, assuming he replies in a timely fashion.

I tend to be a pretty private person, so I wouldn’t go for the “just rent a room” sort of thing. On the other hand, you’re paying far too much now and there’s nothing that says you have to stay at the new place forever.

true. i could move again if i don’t like it. (and thank you for the umbrella cover this morning!)
Holly’s place is cheaper, too. But I don’t think I will find out soon enough…
oy, pressured decisions!

Well, y’all know I already enjoy the benefits of a similar limited-privacy, but much more reasonably-priced room-renting accomodation. And, there’s only *one* bathroom in the old farmhouse where we live.
Suffice to say, if I were in your shoes, it’d be no question, but I’m much more in tune with the communal-living, lower-privacy vibe than some.
Bottom line: if you can’t convince yourself that the privacy concerns are reason enough not to, then you should definitely go for it.

I would go for it. I don’t think I’m going to hear back from my landlord in time. Do you have to sign a lease? That’s how I decided to move in where i’m at now. there was no lease, so i could move out at any time. i gave first and last month’s rent when i moved in, so that if i decided to move, i could without worrying about that last month. move, see if you like it, and if not, keep looking around. there’s plenty of people around to help you move

and i think that this place you looked at is cheaper than mine. i pay $545 a month. it seems like you’d be paying about $480 a month.
