Fucking crap shit

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

I drove Kirsten to the airport this morning for a 6 am flight. It wouldn’t have been a problem except we didn’t actually wake up until 5:05 and it’s a 30 minute drive.

Imagine a whirlwind of activity grabbing everything in the house and shoving it my car, then a frenzied road race hitting the redline on my engine and squealing through the turns.

She made the plane.

Unfortunately, when I got to my apartment I found out that I don’t have my wallet.

Crap.

I guess I’m living in a cash society this week.

Wonder of wonders

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005  awake

I finally cleaned off my desk last night. Including sorting through the box o’ crap that I cleared off my desk last year when I moved out of 302. Now I just need to work on organizing my shelves. Most of the time I hate cleaning, but every once in awhile, it becomes fun. I guess because it’s the only time I have a feeling of accomplishment after working for an hour or so :)

Maybe I should do some organizing in my room now, since I can’t seem to sleep. Damn nap on the couch this evening really screwed me.

A new rule, inspired by finals prep…

Monday, May 30th, 2005  quixotic

Particularly, the final project for the quantum information class.

Rule #2012 = It always takes an experimentalist longer to read through a theory paper than would be expected from theoretical calculations. :)

The Life Aquatic

Monday, May 30th, 2005

I just finally got around to seeing The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Unfortunately, I have to say that it was a lot weaker than The Royal Tenenbaums but it wasn’t so bad that I regret seeing it. You just have to like random humor.

There was a note at the end that really points out the humor of it. All through the movie, there was one character who was singing in Portugese and playing guitar. It turns out that all the songs were David Bowie songs translated and adapted for the movie. Not a lot of other directors would bother doing something that obscure.

Tales of woe from the P76 lab…

Monday, May 30th, 2005  annoyed

So, you know it’s time to replace the crappy 30- to 50-year-old equipment when it’s failing so much that even the professor has to muck around with it for a couple of hours to get it to work, even in a half-ass fashion.

Grumble, grumble. Back to working on my own stuff, now that I’ve had my daily dose of time lost in room 209. :(

Go ahead…..

Summer!

Saturday, May 28th, 2005  happy

So, I’m sitting out on the deck on what was supposed to be a miserable rainy day, and instead, I’m enjoying a nice, warm partly sunny day. I think to myself, “Man, I need a nice summer playlist to go along with this.” So I started putting one together. It’s by no means finished, so it’d be helpful if you could all take a listen sometime when I’m on the subnet, and make suggestions from either the rest of my library, or yours. Then I just might use the list when we do outdoor poker at my place sometime hopefully very soon.
