The article does a nice job of laying out what I’ve always been confused by: one of them necessarily seems to invalidate and negate the other, but maybe I ain’t enough of a fundamentalist to see how they coexist.

Thank you for helping shoulder some of the burden – usually I feel like I’m the only one with political/bitching posts.
Were I ready to be depressed and didn’t need to get a lot of work done today, I’d be willing to engage in a “pretend i’m a fundamentalist moron and try to reconcile two incommensurate ideas”. I”ll let you know when I do. But the whole “innocent baby vs. convicted sinner” fits in there somewhere, as long as you ignore original sin. oops.
