A favor to ask

Monday, May 23rd, 2005

I’m taking a break from working up my presentation for tomorrow. The thing that I’ve figured out is that you should start preparing more than 18 hours before the presentation is due.

Ok, so the favor… keeping in line with my recent music tangents.

Can anyone recognize the song playing in the background of this clip?

Listen to this clip.

So I was watching poker this evening while working, and Doyle Brunson just went all-in with poker 10’s, only to hit two more on the flop. That’s like getting a nice bleach bath to clean yourself up with after being heel-hauled under a 30-year-old trawler…

but then, if you’re going to lose to The Man, might as well go out in style?

Apparently now there’s a Hooters Magazine? (just saw a commercial for it on TV.) I really don’t know what else to say. I’ve always been told that Hooters was famous for their wings? But from the website, you really wouldn’t know that the restaurant existed.

you really have to see the commercial. I honestly thought it was a spoof ad, until I realized that I was watching Fox.

Here’s some serious reading – a transcript of Cali Senator Barbara Boxer’s speech about the reasons for blocking some of Rex Dubya’s appointees. It’s pretty damn scary, really:

How about this one: Rape victims; she was the only member of the court to vote to overturn the conviction of a rapist of a 17-year-old girl because she believed the victim gave mixed messages to the rapist. She stood alone on the side of a rapist, alone as a woman on a court that has six Republicans and one Democrat.

is National Day of Student Action. Among other things, the Higher Education Affordability and Equity Act (H.R. 1380) would return grad student stipends to their former tax-exempt status, or in the words of the esteemed Tyler Dorlund,

Essentially this would only take us from hella po’ to
slightly less hella po’, but anything will be worth it.

Here’s the link to send more letters (ideally sent today/tonight) and make us be able to afford more than one pair of skivvies! For more general info, check out the NAGPS page but note that the letter-writing link on that page is broken.
