more vocab: Unlucky

Posted by Michael.

Unlucky (adv, Brit-slang): unfortunate to the extreme, having nothing to do with luck and everything to do with a just plain disastrous situation, and indicating poor judgement.

Ex 1: the unfortunate or “unlucky” state of making Pope jokes with a buddy only to notice your mother-in-law counting on her rosary in a dark corner, hearing everything you’ve said.
Ex 2: unlucky is going out with the lads for a pint and ending up in hospital with a broken leg and a pumped stomach.
Ex 3: hitting on your arresting officer.

note that this dude was not unlucky that his parachute ripped: the situation was ‘un-lucky’ in that he exercised poor judgement in the first place.
