i slept through class this morning. i tried to get up several times, but it just didn't happen.

    we've recently discussed the issue of sleep. maybe you're just psychically tuned to Pacific Time?

    i think i'm just incapable of sleeping like a normal human being, and two days of getting up at 8 or 8:30 am just kills me.

    but see, there's your problem! you can't shock your system like that and expect it to be happy. need to do it gradually, or just suck it up and do it for a week or something. but going from 1pm to 8am is nonsense, it's just like a fad diet or trying to quit smoking cold turkey...

  4. well, the "turning my schedule completely upside down every 3 months or so" isn't helping either. it took me two terms last year before i finally settled into getting up at a decent hour for spring term. observing kills.

  5. It's not that bad. 🙂

    The secret that I've found is not to try and go to sleep early but rather to stretch being awake until the "right" time to go to sleep. And then making sure that you sleep only a reasonable amount. My method might not work for you, but I get back to normal in about a day and a half.

    Of course, my normal these days is going to sleep at 2 and waking up at 9. But, I think I could shift it around if I had to.

  6. well, when left to my own devices (i.e. over the summers when i had no job) i've found my "normal" sleep schedule to be longer than a 24hour day. i also tend toward nocturnalism. great for observing, sucks the other 40-some weeks of the year.
